Born in NYC, groomed in Western Massachusetts, and a recent transplant to the Austin, TX: Katie Sachs writes songs about everything from her vocal chords, to Amelia Earhart, to Underwear Models; and sings them through a voice reminiscent of crystalized honey. Drawing inspiration from artists such as: Billie Holiday, Feist, Tom Waits and The Talking Heads; Sachs' music is an interesting blend of Jazz, Indie Rock and New Wave that manifest in songs ranging from poppy crowd pleasers to sultry ballads. Her background as a community organizer and use of music as a tool for community building, make her a singer with purpose and versatility. She is a co-founder of The Woman Songwriter Collective, grant writer and leader of songwriting workshops for non-profit organizations. Her debut EP "Places Not on Maps" was released in 2012 to much local heralding and success. With over a decades worth of songs, Katie has a collection of 12 new ones, and after a successful Kickstarter campaign, has commenced recording her second album "The Giantness of Little Things" due to be released some time in 2014. Katie has performed at such prestigious venues as Kerrville Folk Festival (threadgill stage), The Iron Horse, and Club Passim.
"...Sachs’ voice has a deliciously pure tone, and a calculated warble that displays a creamy melodic integrity. The background vocals on the record, accented beautifully at times by strings, organ or saxophone, are like little candy Betty Boops with O-shaped shaped lips made of pink aural icing, teasing through the window of a harmonic bakery ..." "I was shopping for Peaches at the Farmers Market and heard the low thrum of a baritone Ukulele, and a voice somewhere between Billie Holiday and David Byrne. It was Katie Sachs. Delicious melodies. Jucey Lyrics." -Monte Belmonte. 93.9 The River
