Happy New Year everyone! I gotta say, 2013 kicked my ass, but 2014 is feeling pretty damn good. Lots of things are starting to come together on several fronts:
Been playing with Kevin Carroll's "Ukestra" as part of our lovely trade. At first I wasn't quite sure what it would be like, but was pleasantly surprised to discover a lovely intergenerational group of fellow uke students learning equally intergenerational tunes (everything from "My Girl" to "Royals" by 17 year old pop star Lorde) We have our first performance coming up this Friday at a senior home. Should be a hoot!
I also had my first meeting with my engineer and producer, Wilson Marks of The Sparrowmakers (check them out - husband and wife duo. They rule). We set our first studio date for the second weekend of Feb! I can't tell you all how fucking excited I am about his. Am gonna round up some Jazz players and do the first 4 tracks live. I'm really excited to have Wilson involved. He has a degree in Jazz guitar, and I think will really be helpful in bringing this idea to life. Watch out for the kickstarter and more info this March!
Amy and I have been playing a bunch of shows lately, including our first paying gig (finally...!) We have also doubled our set and it continues to grow. We had a really lovely show New Years Day with my friend Tyler's band. A bunch of folks I really love in town showed up, as well as some new friends. Looking forward for this project to keep on growing.
Lastly, on the home front, I have had less time to be an art monster due to more hours at work (which, really, is a good thing as this album won't pay for itself.) Home continues to feel really good, however. We got a new housemate - a friend from work - and it's been great to get to know him. Spent the day on Thursday going to whole paycheck and the gym and made a lovely Indian inspired dinner.
Hope you are all having an equally wonderful beginning to the new year!!! XOXO K
