What an eventful week! Here's the recap:
in the studio
Was in the studio for my first big session on Saturday morning. We tracked 4 of the more straight Jazz songs on the album with Kris Wade (Bass) Brannen Temple (Drums) and Wilson Marks (Electric Guitar). This was my first real session of the sort - recording multiple instruments at the same time. I was a little nervous about working this way, as I feared having less control over each individual track. I gotta say, however, that I am now a total convert. I'm sure part of the reason for this was the amazing talent in the room. The energy and chemistry was awesome. It was so cool to have an idea in my head of how I wanted things to sound and have it be replicated in real life, except with the nuances that each musician brought to the songs. I likened the experience to seeing the first sonogram of an unborn child (the metaphor I am going with for this whole project) It gave some shape to this idea I have brewing.
We also added some cool atmospheric sounds to the 4 poems of my fathers I am including between the tracks. Now THAT was really cool. Thanks so much Tim Mason for the suggestion of approaching them in this way!
My favorite song to track so far was "Paper Airplane" This took the most takes, but was well worth it. I feel like it really got the free, "clunky" energy I was going for.
Am putting the finishing touches on my kickstarter page and preparing to launch on Valentines Day! (A holiday I normally hate - trying to take it back) If you've been following me and believe in the music, please please please consider donating - either monetarily, with services, or simply by passing the opportunity on to folks you know that might be interested in the project. The more circles I can reach the better likelihood I have of reaching my $6,000 goal! I've put a lot of thought into the rewards and tried my best to make them fun and exciting.
Western MAss mini-tour
At the end of March, I will be returning home to Western, MA and embarking on a local mini-tour to promote my kickstarter. Already got 6 shows booked. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
