This is a poem I sent to my beloved cousin, for her Kickstarter Reward. It is named after my new album "A Matter of Time"
Hello Friends!!
Welcome to my brand new weekly blog MASHUGA-NOTES! I will be using this space as a kind of "online diary" as well as a place to share lessons I am learning, personal growth stories, health information, recommendations for other healers/writers/artists/etc. to explore, reactions to national and global events, and... well...whatever else crosses my mind or appears as a theme in my daily life. Thank you for going on this journey with me! I hope you find these words to be inspiring and supportive in your own lives as well. Let's kick the year off with some intentions! Intentions for 2019.... Most people who know me, know that I am an avid reader of "self-help / spiritual" type books. At the end of last year, I became really interested in the energy of "receiving" - a state that we talk far less about in our culture than it's counterpart "giving," and that is often even cast into a negative light - being conflated with words like "laziness" and "passivity." I did a google search for books about receiving, and could find only one - "The Power Of Receiving" by Amanda Owens. I devoured it. It is probably the best, most illuminating, well organized, user -friendly self help book I have ever read! I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone looking for more balance, ease, pleasure and abundance in their life. It is with this energy of receptivity, (Interestingly, one that is considered to be part of the Divine Feminine in many cultures...) that I welcome in this new year of 2019. I am setting intentions for more:
This is not to be at the EXPENSE, of giving, but rather as an integration and in flow with the exchange of these two sides of the same coin. A seamless symbiosis. The work that I do - both with music and massage - is ALL about the energies of giving and receiving and how they interact. There are moments when it is unclear who is giving and who is receiving - when they are happening at the same exact time! When you receive something fully, you are giving the giver a gift (Think about how GREAT it feels to make an offering to someone and how rewarding it is to feel their appreciation and benefit. Think about how BAD it feels for someone to reject your offering, or worse - to make fun of your vulnerability!) I invite you all to play with these two dynamics and to ALLOW yourself to accept help, indulge pleasure and ask for what you want/give someone else the OPPORTUNITY to provide whatever it is that need for you. HERE'S TO THE BEST YEAR SO FAR IN 2019. IN LOVE AND BEAUTY. -Katie |
